About Us.
The mission of Zip Code Wilmington is to support the economic development of the greater Wilmington Region by providing accessible and affordable software programming training to high-potential individuals who have the raw talent necessary to become entry level software developers and data engineers.
Founded in 2015 by Benjamin DuPont (Chairman), Jim Stewart, and Porter Schutt, Zip Code Wilmington has grown to become one of the few nationally recognized, award winning nonprofit software developer training programs in the country. Located in the heart of the City of Wilmington in the Nemours Building, Zip Code Wilmington now has over 650 graduates. Approximately 75% of its graduates who have been placed in entry level software jobs remain in Delaware working, buying homes and cars, paying taxes, and contributing to the growth and development of the local economy.
Purposely designed to be accessible to a broad talent base, Zip Code Wilmington’s training program has greatly supported communities which are underrepresented in tech. The average age of a Zipcoder is 30 years old. Its cohorts, on average, are 30-50% women, 25-30% African American/Latinx, and 25-35% low-income candidates (who are living 200% below the poverty line). Zip Code Wilmington currently offers two courses of study: Java Software Developer and Data Engineering & Analysis.
