JPMorgan Chase is expanding in Delaware as a few details were revealed on the company’s new site at the former AstraZeneca South Campus.

Spokesman Paul Hartwick said the property is “currently being updated” with the building expected to be occupied in coming months.

Hartwick says the building will serve as a technology hub for JPMorgan Chase businesses throughout the world.

At the same time, Chase has been adding staff in the state, with total employment now about 8,500, Hartwick stated. That represents a gain of 1,100 jobs from March of last year.

Chase is now believed to be the largest for-profit employer in the state and the largest banking employer, outpacing Bank of America. Bank of America does not release jobs figures, but by some estimates has 7,000 employees at sites in Wilmington and near Newark.

The largest private employer in the state is Christiana Care, which has about 10,000 employees.

Chase will also offer commercial banking service to “mid-market” businesses, with the company in the process of hiring staff, Hartwick said.

Chase operates a credit card headquarters in Wilmington and also has sites in Christiana-Stanton; Ogletown, and The White Clay Corporate Center, just outside of Wilmington.

Last year, Chase obtained a $1.5 million loan from the state of Delaware for the installation of equipment and other assets as part of a $50 million investment.
