You will receive online resources that will give you an opportunity to explore the world of software programming and also help you prepare for the next step – the assessment! These resources will be crucial in helping you determine whether software programming is the right career for you.
STEP 3: ASSESSMENT
Take our online assessment which is designed to help showcase your ability to think logically, analyze issues, and to solve problems. The assessment is completed in one sitting and can only be taken once per application cycle. Don’t forget to have fun!
STEP 4: GROUP INTERVIEW
If you pass the assessment, you will be invited to a group interview. During the 60-minute group interview, you will be participating with 3-4 other applicants in group activities that allow you to demonstrate your ability to work in a team. You will be asked to solve fun challenges as a group and meet others interested in attending the Zip Code Wilmington program.
STEP 5: FINAL INTERVIEWS
Those selected to move forward after the Group Interview will conduct a one-on-one professional interview as well as a “whiteboard” (technical) interview with our Executive Director and a Zip Code technical instructor, respectively.
FINAL STEP: ADMISSIONS DECISION
The Director of Admissions & Professional Development will contact applicants who have completed final interviews with a decision.

While previous coding experience is not required, we are looking for a baseline coding aptitude on the admissions assessment. We will provide all applicants with resources to begin to familiarize yourself with the fundamentals and coding skills necessary to be considered for our program.
We have accepted applicants with all types of educational and professional backgrounds – from high school graduates to PhDs. Our students’ backgrounds have included work as musicians, engineers, customer service reps, scientists and warehouse workers.
You must have a high school diploma or GED and be able to legally work without sponsorship in the United States. Accepted students must also complete a criminal background check.
The application process is multi-step and typically takes 8-12 weeks from submitting your application to acceptance decision.
We’re looking for passionate self-starters with grit, tenacity and a fierce love of problem solving.
Practice, practice, practice. Prepare for the admissions assessment by using these free resources. The more time you spend learning the basics, the better you will do throughout the application process. Plus, it will help you confirm that software development is the right choice for you.
Re-apply! If you need to withdraw your application or do not get accepted into the program, please re-apply for the next session. Some applicants need more time to work on their coding skills and may need to re-apply to have a better chance of being accepted.

You don’t have to have a background in coding to do well. Focus on the resources provided when preparing for the online assessment and remember to have fun.
TIP 2: BRUSH UP ON YOUR MATH SKILLS.
While you don’t need to be a math whiz, simple math functions like average, mean, sum, powers and squares are helpful when solving complex coding problems. Using basic math concepts helps with logical thinking.
TIP 3: UPDATE YOUR RESEARCH SKILLS.
Be comfortable looking up issues online and using resources to problem solve.
TIP 4: PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
Practice talking through a problem. Practice in front of a mirror or record yourself answering a problem. Take a riddle that you know how to solve and explain it in detail.
TIP 5: DON’T TRY TO ACE THE ASSESSMENT.
Don’t focus on getting everything done. Take your time and work through each problem.
